His practice combines courtroom advocacy with planning and documentation for commercial and personal legal needs. His matters often involve business owners managing assets, debt obligations, transactions, or the legal consequences of failed agreements.
Americo received a B.S. in Management from Boston College and earned his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School. He began practicing law in 1982 and developed a foundation in real estate transactions and commercial representation. His education supports his work involving business structures, contracts, financial obligations, and the legal procedures governing property and commercial disputes.
Americo began his career with DiMuro, DiMuro & Scungio, where he became a partner and handled closings, title matters, foreclosures, zoning, and land use disputes. From 1994 to 2004, he ran his own practice in Westerly and Providence, concentrating on business law and secured transactions. Since 2004, his work has included bankruptcy proceedings, corporate formation, probate administration, and state and federal litigation. His experience with foreclosures and secured transactions adds a financial component to his real estate and bankruptcy work.
Americo M. Scungio is admitted in Rhode Island, the U.S. District Courts for Rhode Island and Connecticut, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. His decades of experience include representing parties on both sides of financial and property-related disputes. He helps clients evaluate legal risks, work through procedural requirements, and pursue practical solutions in litigation and business matters. The breadth of his practice enables him to consider the ways a single commercial dispute can involve multiple legal issues.
