Her work covers trial and appellate matters involving drug crimes, theft and property offenses, DUII, assault, criminal mischief, sex crimes, and other serious charges. She also represents individuals in academic and professional disciplinary proceedings, bringing litigation and appellate experience to complex defense matters.
Garty earned a J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2010. During law school, she served as a staff editor for the Oregon Law Review and worked as a judicial extern for US Magistrate Judge John V. Acosta. After graduation, she clerked for Judge Kathleen M. Dailey of the Multnomah County Circuit Court. Her legal education and judicial experience strengthened the research, writing, and courtroom skills central to criminal defense and appellate practice.
Garty spent more than six years as a criminal defense attorney before joining the Oregon Court of Appeals, where she served for six years as a staff attorney and senior staff counsel. She advised judges and court staff on substantive legal issues and drafted appellate opinions for publication. Earlier in practice, she handled hundreds of criminal cases and tried matters before judges and juries in several Oregon counties, obtaining acquittals in misdemeanor and felony cases.
Amanda Garty combines trial-level defense experience with a detailed understanding of appellate review. Her background includes private criminal defense practice, public defense work, judicial clerkship experience, and senior legal work for the Oregon Court of Appeals. That range of experience supports representation at different stages of a criminal case, from pretrial litigation and jury trials through appellate issues. She focuses on protecting clients’ rights and presenting carefully developed arguments in serious criminal and disciplinary matters.
