About
Aaron Marx is senior counsel in the International Trade Group at Crowell & Moring in Washington, DC. Aaron advises clients on import regulatory compliance, trade remedies, customs issues, and international trade litigation. His work covers valuation, classification, duty drawback, marking and labeling, entry procedures, penalties, free trade agreements, antidumping and countervailing duty matters, and tariff programs under Sections 232 and 301. He also assists clients seeking the release of goods detained or seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Aaron earned a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan. Before entering law, he spent nine years as a chemical engineer in the automotive industry, working on hydraulic hoses, automotive weatherstrips, and rubber products for vehicle programs. During law school, he worked at a patent prosecution firm, the Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 2 Office of Regional Counsel, and for a federal district judge. His technical and legal training supports detailed customs and trade analysis.
Aaron previously served as an Attorney-Advisor in the Office of International Trade at U.S. Customs and Border Protection. He worked in the Tariff Classification and Marking Branch and the Intellectual Property Rights Branch, issuing rulings involving classification, country-of-origin marking, trademark and copyright infringement, and exclusion orders. He also supported World Customs Organization matters and participated in work connected to the Information Technology Agreement expansion. His practice now draws on that government experience when advising importers and other market participants.
Aaron Marx combines international trade counseling with direct experience inside the federal customs system. He is admitted in the District of Columbia and New York and represents clients confronting regulatory questions that can affect the movement, cost, and availability of imported goods. His work includes customs enforcement, trade litigation, intellectual property issues at the border, and strategic compliance with changing tariff programs. This background helps clients address technical trade rules while managing practical supply-chain, enforcement, and commercial concerns.
