About
A. David Fawal is an attorney in Butler Snow’s Birmingham office with more than 35 years of litigation experience. Fawal focuses on commercial litigation and insurance coverage and defense, with additional work involving catastrophic events, major claims, class actions, trucking litigation, and transportation matters. He represents insurers and business clients in disputes that can involve coverage, extra-contractual claims, bad faith allegations, fraud, property losses, and complex commercial issues.
Fawal earned a J.D. from Cumberland School of Law in 1990, where he served on the Trial Advocacy Board and as associate managing editor of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy. He received a B.S. in Psychology, cum laude, from Birmingham-Southern College in 1986. His legal and undergraduate training provided a foundation for trial preparation, written advocacy, witness analysis, and the evaluation of complex insurance and commercial disputes.
Fawal has defended insurers and other clients in matters arising from Hurricanes Katrina, Sandy, and Sally, including flood and property claims. His experience also includes extra-contractual and bad faith litigation, an ephedra products trial, managed-care multidistrict litigation, pharmacy-benefit antitrust issues, and appellate matters. He has represented clients in disputes where insurance contracts, causation, damages, regulatory questions, and large factual records require coordinated litigation strategy.
A. David Fawal has been recognized by Best Lawyers and Alabama Super Lawyers for work that includes commercial litigation and insurance law. He also served in the military as a Judge Advocate General officer and retired as a commander. His combination of civilian litigation and military legal experience supports disciplined case management, trial preparation, and practical advice to insurers and businesses facing high-exposure claims, transportation matters, and complex commercial disputes.
